Every once in a while, a DUI arrest will come along that grabs your attention
and simply will not let go. Such is the case with a recent incident that
involved a DUI arrest, children, and an accident.
According to police, a 28-year-old Florida resident took her two 18-month-old
twin children on a joy ride around town, before involving them in a crash.
When police arrived on the scene, they say that it was likely that the
driver had been arguing with someone just prior to the accident, and that
it seemed as if she was “out of it” when they walked up to
the vehicle.
Police say that they only saw one of the twins, sitting next to a beer
can, and when they asked, the driver reached down and lifted the other
child off of the floorboards of her vehicle. According to the report filed,
neither child had been in their car seats at all during the incident.
The driver in the Buick that she rear-ended was not seriously injured,
and shortly after the accident, the father of the children showed up to
take them to the hospital to check for injuries.
When police administered breathalyzer tests to her, her readings were .228
and .236, nearly 3 times the Florida legal limit of .08.
She was charged with driving under the influence, and police scheduled
for the Florida Department of Children and Families to check by their
home and make sure the children were OK.
